Central Texas Workforce Development
The Central Texas Workforce Development System is designed under the leadership of the Central Texas Workforce Development Board. The Board works with guidance from local businesses, educators and community-based organizations. Governor George W. Bush certified the Central Texas Workforce Development Board as a local workforce development board on July 22, 1997. The Board is made up of 51% business representation including local large, medium and small business members. Board members also include representatives from education, human services and community-based organizations. The Central Texas Workforce System is designed to provide a decentralized system of checks and balances with a separation of policy makers, service providers and vendors; the Workforce Board acts as policy maker, Workforce Center Subcontractors provide services, and education/training entities represent vendors. Customers of the Central Texas Workforce System include employers, educators, residents, job seekers and community based organizations. Mission Provides quality education, training and labor market services which give employers and residents of the region competitive advantage in the global economy. Roles and Responsibilities Texas Workforce Commission: State agency acting in capacity of fiscal agent and administrative entity to provide technical assistance, oversight and evaluation, and information system support to local, certified Workforce Development Boards. Central Texas Chief Elected Officials Consortium Board: Recruit and certify local Workforce Development Board members; sit as ex-officio members of the Central Texas Workforce Development Board; responsible for ensuring allowable use of funds. Central Texas Workforce Development Board: Local agency acting in capacity of fiscal agent and administrative entity to provide planning, oversight, and evaluation of all Department of Labor funded workforce development programs and services; provide technical assistance and information system support to local Workforce Centers. Subcontractor -- Central Texas Council of Governments: Staffing agent for Central Texas Workforce Centers.
